Today I received a phonecall from my friend over at Soulcyle. As you may know I come from a BMX background and I was very pleased with his phonecall regarding the Subrosa Malum fixed gear bike.
He told me that Subrosa, a BMX company from origin, is working on their fixed gear model.
First we had the FBM Sword, later the Profile fixed hubs and than the Volume Cutter fixed gear frame/fork combo… and now we’re looking at the Subrosa Malum… More BMX companies start to get involved in fixed gear riding and I’m not gonna discuss whether it’s a good or a bad thing, I’ll let everyone sort that out for him/her self. Personally I think it’s a good step. You see tricksters riding their nice Italian or NJS frames to shreds, cause they’re simply not built for that kind of use. So I think BMX companies getting involved to build fixies for tricksters is def a good thing when it comes to quality and durability. BMX companies have been in the game of building bicycles meant to take large impacts for years now, so they know what the deal is.
This particular model of Subrosa caught my attention for it’s esthetically appearance. The frame comes raw built with all black parts. I like! I already pre-ordered one for myself!

mooie geometrie, krappe clearances, dope, alleen vind 699 wel aan de hoge kant, tenzij t highend cranks enz. zijn dan. voor dat geld heb je ook een bareknuckle met budget cranks en wielset staan..
Mmm, het is maar net waar je naar op zoek bent. De Bareknuckle heeft nog steeds een baanbenadering qua opbouw van fiets. (of frame en vork).
De subrosa is meer ge-ijkt op rijden a la Superted en Tom Mosher en La Marche enzo… Maar je hebt voor €699,- geen (nieuwe) bareknuckle met budget cranks en wielset thuis staan hoor.
€550,- alleen voor frame+vork excl. verzendkosten en invoer en andere eventuele bijkomende kosten…
Op de Subrosa zitten geen highend cranks, maar tough genoeg om te kunnen grinden bijv. en dat soort klappen op te vangen waarvoor de bike is gemaakt. Ik vind de Bareknuckle ook een heel mooi frame, maar niet voor DIE manier van rijden. Maar los van dat… Voor mensen die in principe in 1 keer klaar willen zijn en voorlopig ff vooruit willen kunnen zou dit denk ik een mooie fiets zijn.
Ikzelf zet er een bmx-stem op en misschien een ander stuurtje om hem voor mij perfect te maken.
Hier word ik wel hebberig van

@ Mark Vos: HAHAHA…OUWE BAASSSSSS! Ja man, jij moet het ook bij je BMX houden…daar kan je je al net levend houden, laat staan als je op een fixie gaat rondscheuren… beter van niet!
